Description
Moscow
Russia's present day capital is home to the infamous Red Square containing Lenin's Tomb, the surreal St Basil's Cathedral and the cavernous Kremlin with its incredible complex of palaces, churches and museums. As well as guided tours of these and other major sights within Moscow and its environs, we allow plenty of free time to do your own exploring using the fabulous Moscow Metro system before catching the overnight sleeper train northwards to St Petersburg.
St Petersburg
Set on the hundred islets that form the Neva River Delta, Peter the Great's wonderful city is acclaimed by many to be Europe's most beautiful. It is also home to the Hermitage museum, without doubt one of the world's greatest art galleries. With three and a half days here we have time both for guided sightseeing in and around the city and free time. We shall visit The Hermitage, stroll down Nevsky Prospekt, gaze in awe at the golden domes of the fabulous cathedrals, and we also include a visit to Catherine the Great's Palace in Pushkin. But there is still time too if you wish for a visit to Peter and Paul's Fortress, Peter the Great's Summer palace in Petrodvorets, and perhaps a ballet performance by the Kirov.
