Description
Rebuilding Communities
After sightseeing in Phnom Penh we head north to the Kompong Thom. Lush green paddy fields, dotted with palms, are fed by the waters of Lake Tonle Sap. For 4 nights we base ourselves at a Khmer Homestay Project in Baray village. This inspiring community based tourism initiative affords us a taste of Cambodian village life as we live alongside the local people. As well as enjoying their hospitality and learning about their traditions at close hand, a major part of our stay is devoted to renovation work at the local school and the homes of some of the elderly residents.
Angkor & the Andaman Sea
No journey to Cambodia is complete without a visit to the breathtaking temples of the Angkorian Kings. Constructed over a period of some 600 years, hundreds are scattered through a vast area of jungle. Our exploration includes the main highlights - Angkor Wat, Ta Phrom and Angkor Thom, as well as a number of lesser known and newly opened ones, such as Banteay Srei. We also take a boat on Tonle Sap Lake to visit a school Explore has been supporting. Finally we head to the coast and to Sihanoukville where we take a boat trip through the offshore islands, enjoying the unspoilt beaches and tropical waters of the Andaman Sea.
What are the benefits?
Our Homestay is providing valuable training and employment opportunities in this rural area. Just by staying, we are supporting their initiative. In addition this trip will fund specific development work at the school and for the elderly of the village.

Introduction
The heartlands of Cambodia, an area of outstanding natural beauty, were home to some of the worst atrocities of the Khmer Rouge era. Since the early 1990s, the people have had to work hard to rebuild their lives. We'll spend time working with one such community in Baray, as well as visiting the spectacular temples of Angkor and relaxing on the tropical coast.
