Selous Safari & Spice Islands (EXSZ)
Duration:
10 days (may vary)
Areas: Tanzania
Tour types: Nature & Wildlife, Safari, Walking & Trekking
Description
Selous Game Reserve
We'll charter a light aircraft from Dar-es-Salaam and head southwest to our comfortable river camp in the Selous Game Reserve. The Selous is the largest wildlife area in the world. It is over 21,000 square miles and almost four times the size of the Serengeti! We'll go bird-watching and organise an early morning game drive. We'll also explore the Rufiji River by boat and watch wildlife come down to drink at dusk. In the evenings we enjoy beautiful African sunsets. The Selous has herds of elephant, as well as many hippos, crocodiles, giraffe, lion, wildebeest, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, kudu and prolific birdlife.
Fragrant Zanzibar Island
We also spend time relaxing and exploring on the spice-rich island of Zanzibar. In Old Zanzibar town you can wander the narrow streets past mosques and towering minarets, or enjoy the aromas of the spices this island is famous for. You may like to take a tour of Stonetown or a 'Spice' tour of the island and visit the plantations before we move on to the North Coast where there is time to unwind. You can swim and snorkel off perfect tropical beaches, explore by bicycle or on foot, or perhaps take a sunset Dhow Cruise.

Introduction
Tanzania devotes more land to wildlife conservation than any other country. The great game parks of the north are already familiar names and justly world famous. But the marvellous Selous Game Reserve in the south, a true wilderness with a rich variety of wildlife, is virtually undiscovered and remains one of Africa's best kept secrets. The latter part of our tour is spent on the exotic paradise island Zanzibar.
