Description
Imperial Splendours of Beijing
Beginning our journey in the Chinese capital we explore the expansive maze of the Forbidden City and venture out to the impressive spectacle of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. We also visit Tiananmen Square and have a chance to tour the city's bustling hutongs, (old residential quarters) or visit the majestic settings of the Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace. Then an overnight train brings us to the ancient Silk Road capital of Xian, home to the remarkable Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huangdi.
Ancient Tombs & Streets of Shanghai
In Xian we explore the old parts of the city, taking in the wooden mosque and meandering streets of its Muslim Quarter and visiting the impressive Big Wild Goose Pagoda. A trip out to the Terracotta Warriors then introduces us to one of the most spectacular archaeological finds of the last century and a highlight of our journey. Flying to China's eastern coast, the climax of our trip sees us in the vibrant port city of Shanghai, where we have an opportunity to tour the city before we drive out for the chance to view the unique spectacle of a total solar eclipse.
