Beyond Jerusalem's Walls

Beyond Jerusalem's Walls (EXAJE)

Duration: 4 days (may vary)
Areas: Holy Land, Israel
Tour types: History & Culture, Short Breaks, Walking & Trekking

Description

Tabgha, Capernaum & Jericho
The journey commences with an early morning boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and then we continue to Tabgha, the site of the miracle of the fish and the loaves. We continue on to Capernaum, where we visit the old synagogue and the house of St. Peter. Driving south, we head through the Jordan Valley to Jericho, the oldest city in the World. We continue to Qumran, the site where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered and also a great place to experience the unique sensation of floating on the Dead Sea.

Jerusalem on Foot
The old city of Jerusalem is a warren of narrow streets and alleyways; the turn of each corner seems to reveal yet another familiar name. The atmosphere of a traditional Middle Eastern souk only serves to strengthen the feeling of stepping back in time. Our walking tour of the city includes the Via Dolorosa, where Jesus himself laboured with the cross, the Wailing Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - site of the crucifixion, Jesus' tomb and place of resurrection. We also take in the wonderful views of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives and travel to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus.

Introduction

Jerusalem - no other city in the world has had such a profound impact on Christian, Muslim and Jewish minds. Home to some of the world's most important religious sites, an atmosphere of almost tangible history pervades the narrow alleyways of the Old City, whilst beyond its walls are sites littered with familiar names. You will explore the Old City on foot and visit both the Mount of Olives and Bethlehem, as well as visit the Dead Sea where you swim in the saline waters of this natural phenomenon.
