In the remote east of Finland, close to the border with Russia, and surrounded by frozen lakes and vast forests, is the lovely Hotel Kalevala. This is a highlight of the trip, as the hotel has excellent facilities including a wellbeing department. After your day's activities you can relax in a soothing sauna and dine beside spectacular views of the lake as you try some of the excellent local dishes. Here our programme includes a variety of winter activities, from cross-country skiing to snowmobiling through forests and across frozen lakes and a full day driving dogsleds with friendly and lively huskies. There is even the opportunity to try a spot of ice-fishing. We leave two days free for optional trips or further participation in whatever you have enjoyed the most. All the excursions (apart from dogsledding) begin directly from our hotel.

Day 1:

Start at Hotel Kalevala

Day 2:

Snowmobile safari and ice-fishing; lunch included.

Day 3:

A morning of cross-country skiing instruction; keep equipment to continue touring unguided in afternoon.

Day 4:

A free day to choose your own activities or relax and use hotel sauna and spa facilities.

Day 5:

Self-drive dogsledding safari sharing one sled between two, taking turns to drive.

Day 6:

Three hour snowshoe trek with lunch by a campfire.

Day 7:

Free day with optional activities available through the hotel.

Day 8:

End Hotel Kalevala.
