Accommodation in Village Houses

The village of Korana has only a dozen houses which are located on both sides of the Korana River. All the houses are in close proximity to one another so whilst the group will be spread between houses they will not be far away from other families in the group.
The houses are traditional style and roofed with wooden tiles. Each house has two or three bedrooms; two rooms share one bathroom. The rooms are simple, but clean and pleasant - breakfasts or barbecue meals can be enjoyed outdoors, by the river. A communal area is not necessarily available.
There are locals living in the houses in Korana Village, using their own kitchens and bathrooms. Sometimes a few of the houses might be empty if the owners are not in residence.
Families may have their own house or share with another family and/or share with the owners. Rooms/houses will be allocated depending on the group size and make up; we cannot guarantee families will be sharing or not sharing with others. Families will not be split up into different houses, unless they are too big for one house in which case they will be placed as near to each other as is possible.
The families owning the houses speak at least some English - and will be happy to teach you some Croatian.

Activities

All activities on this trip are designed to be flexible and can be adapted to suit the capabilities and ages of the group. Instruction is provided throughout by experienced guides and always operated in a safety-conscious manner. It is always possible to opt out of an activity if you wish to. The order of activities is subject to change due to local constraints.

Adventure Level

The trip is considered active. None of the activities are compulsory and you can opt out or participate to your own level.  No previous experience is required for any activity and instruction is provided. Minimum age: 8 years

Climate

Croatia has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, sunny summers. Summer temperatures average 24-26ºC but can be much hotter in July and August; it tends to be a little cooler in the higher regions. Rainfall is low but cannot be ruled out at any time of year.

Your visit brings much-needed income to this area where people are still trying to recover from the war-torn years that disrupted their lives so badly. The area you stay in is close to the Bosnian Border and was badly affected by the conflict. By visiting you are contributing directly to this recovery and helping local people rebuild their future.

Since the increase in popularity of bottled water, many countries are experiencing a problem of litter especially where adequate recycling is not available. Please could you try, where possible, to use purification tablets or filters for water or buy bigger bottles of water between group members and decant into your individual water bottles.
