Adventure Level

Anyone in good health should be able to take part in this trip. Journeys by road can be tiring in hot summers; overnight train travel is undertaken in comfortable ‘soft class’. China is a developing country and some things may not meet Western expectations - all travellers need to be flexible, accepting that standards will be different to those found at home. Minimum age: 7 years.

Climate

This trip covers a vast area with large climatic differences, so there’s no ideal time to travel. The best overall conditions probably occur Apr-May and Sep-Oct. In the far south around Hong Kong and Guangzhou, it is hot and humid Apr-Sep. In the north, summer falls May-Aug where temperatures average 30°C. Most rain falls in the summer months of Jun-Sep. Responsible Travel

For every person travelling on this trip, The Adventure Company will donate £2 to a carbon offset programme. More details can be found on our website. We have developed a programme of school visits with our local agent in China. You will have the opportunity to visit a school during your stay in Pingan (near Longii), which provides education for about 50 pupils aged from 6–11. These schools would benefit greatly from your support so if you would like to offer your assistance by taking a gift they would be delighted to receive the following; clothes (remember Chinese children are smaller than those in the UK), exercise books, schoolbags, pencils and crayons, erasers and similar stationary. Although you can take things out with you, goods are available cheaply locally and your Group Leader will be able to advise on where to buy things. Please note; school holidays in China are in July and August so visits will not be possible during these months. Since the increase in popularity of bottled water, many countries are experiencing a problem of litter especially where adequate recycling is not available. Please could you try, where possible, to use purification tablets or filters for water or buy bigger bottles of water between group members and decant into your individual water bottles.
