Adventure Level

Although this trip involves some physical exertion, no previous experience is required. Skiing and snowshoeing are aerobic activities but anyone who is reasonably fit should be able to take part. Some activities will be tailored to suit the abilities and ages of the group. Minimum age: 5 years.

Climate

Bulgaria has a temperate climate with seasonal variations familiar to British visitors. In winter the weather in the Rhodope Mountains is influenced by cold air streams from the North and the warmer breezes from the Mediterranean. Although the temperatures experienced here are milder than in other parts of Bulgaria, the topography is such that snowfall is often heavy and long-lasting – giving great skiing conditions.  Average daytime temperatures Dec- Apr are around zero or a few degrees below but usually with plenty of sunshine and little wind. Responsible Travel

This trip benefits many local Bulgarian people, from the pension owners to our local family-run agency, the Group Leader and drivers. Chepelare and Devin are largely undiscovered by foreign tourists and your fellow skiers are more likely to be locals or visitors from other parts of Bulgaria. Sharing a meal with local people offers a genuine insight into every day life.

For every person travelling on this trip, The Adventure Company will donate £2 to a carbon offset programme. More details can be found on our website.

Skiing Equipment

All ski passes and equipment required for organised activities are included in the price of this holiday. For children under 12 years old, a helmet will also be provided. Should you decide to ski, snowboard or snowshoe on the afternoon of day three or on day four, you will need to hire equipment locally. 

The cost of hiring equipment will vary according to the type, size and quantity needed. However, as an approximate guide you can expect to pay from: £13 for a snowboard pp per day, £6 pp per day for skis and £5.50 pp per day for snowshoes.  A one day lift pass in Chepelare will cost approximately £8.

You can choose whether you would like to snowboard or
downhill ski upon arrival in Bulgaria, and your leader will
advise accordingly.
