While in Siem Reap there will be the option to visit the Land Mine Museum or Amelio School for Disadvantaged Children.
The Land Mine Museum is run by Mr Aki Ra, a 31 year old mine clearer and former child soldier. He's since worked with the UN to clear land mines in the area unaided by support, external funding or basic detection devices. A local village of 500 is now growing in confidence in the area thanks to Aki Ra's work. He educates them in mine awareness, safety & first aid.
The museum raises awareness of mines and Aki's work. There's no cost to enter the museum but we pay a fixed US$5 per person fee per group anyway to help Aki continue his work. The village is also very poor; gifts of toothbrushes, books, mosquito nets, mattresses and pillows would be welcomed. These can be purchased in Siem Reap and must be handed to our agent's staff for proper distribution.
