Adventure Level

Any healthy adult should be able to take part. Travelling in Kenya is sometimes rough due to the condition of the roads. There are a number of early mornings to get the best game viewing. The walk at Mount Kenya can be moderately exhausting, depending on weather conditions and personal fitness levels.

Climate

Temperate or subtropical - depending where you are. In the temperate highlands, there are two rainy seasons: Mar-May and Nov-Dec. The sunniest time of year is Dec-Mar, and the coolest Jul-Aug. Daytime temperatures rarely exceed the mid 20s, or fall below 10°C. The north of the country is drier and hotter. The coast also has two wet seasons: Apr-May, and to a lesser extent Oct-Nov, although it can rain any time. Temperature and humidity is high year round, but generally tempered by onshore breezes.

The Local Payment must be paid in the specified currency when requested by the Group Leader or local agent, or you will not be permitted to join the trip.

Responsible Travel

We offset the carbon emissions associated with the in-country travel on all of our trips by supporting a solar stove and clean energy project in Madagascar.

However, it is your flight that will have the largest environmental impact on your holiday. We offer you the opportunity to offset your carbon dioxide emissions with a donation to our solar stove and clean energy project in South Africa. The project is run by the non-profit organisation Blue Ventures Carbon Offset and validated by the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Service (TICOS) as delivering measurable carbon reduction and wider sustainable development benefits for local people. We strongly encourage you to donate to our project, so if you would like to offset the carbon emissions generated by your flight, please contact us.  Offsets start from as little as £4.

Since the increase in popularity of bottled water, many countries are experiencing a problem of litter especially where adequate recycling is not available. Please could you try, where possible, to use purification tablets or filters for water or buy bigger bottles of water between group members and decant into your individual water bottles.

The accommodation used in the Masai Mara is dedicated not only to sustainable eco-friendly tourism but also to actively helping local communities. Solar energy is used for most of their needs including heating the shower water, which is used afterwards to water the trees and vegetables of their agro-forestry project. The local school has also benefited from new buildings, desks, water tanks, tree planting and a scholarship programme. You can visit a  school and if you would like to contribute to their development they would be delighted to receive pens, pencils, books or other equipment that you might like to bring with you.
